ACCESSIBLITY
We strive to make all our events at QMU accessible to everyone.
Sadly our building wasn't designed with the greatest care toward accessibility, but together we can come up with practical solutions to any problems that arise.
Your feedback is always welcome and we’ll do our best to be as flexible as possible to meet your needs.
Booking Tickets
To book tickets head to our events pages and click the ticket links for each event. We typically don't sell our own tickets for gigs but if we do the link will be listed on the listings page.

Subway
The Hillhead Subway station is 5 minutes away from us on Byres Road. As you exit, go right then after Pret A Manger turn right again onto Great George Street. On Lilybank Gardens, turn right and follow this along to the Boyd Orr Building. Then turn left, and we are on the left. The hill here is quite steep, and at the top is the pavement and our access ramp. Wheelchair users may also enter through the goods entrance across the road from the Boyd Orr building - this can be arranged in advance of the show with our staff.
Bus
The number 4 First Bus stops on University Avenue, at the entrance to University Gardens. University Gardens is horseshoe shaped. The left fork road is currently closed to cars due to building works. However, if need be we can let the adjacent bollards at the right fork down to allow special access. Our building itself is located at the u-shaped end of University Gardens. We have an access ramp, and our building contains 2 lifts.
Car
Parking in the West End can be difficult. The best place to park to access us is the car park at Lilybank Gardens. From here, turn right, follow the round round to the Boyd Orr, turn right again and then we are on the left.
Wheelchair spaces
These are available when you book, but they’re limited on a first come, first served basis.
visually impaired visitors
If you need braille or large print material, please let us know in advance by contacting us by email at events@qmunion.org.uk
Assistance dogs
Guide and hearing assistance dogs are welcome, just be sure to let us know when you book.
Assistance / Lift Access
If you need assistance or lift access, let us know and a member of staff can meet you at the front doors. We’d recommend arriving about 15 minutes before doors open, just to make things easier.

Venues
The QMU has two main venue spaces: the Bar, and the Venue.
The Venue on the Ground Floor is the largest space.
The ground floor of the Venue has a large bar, a stage and a raised platform area. The Venue also has a balcony. To access this please take the lift or stairs from the ground floor, and go in through the Bar on your left. The Balcony has fixed seating and a space for up to 3 wheelchair users. You can reserve seats on the Balcony by contacting us in advance.
The Bar is our secondary venue space.
It contains a bar, male and female toilets, a small stage and a variety of seats and tables. The Bar can be accessed via the stairs from the ground floor, or by taking the lift to level 1.
Toilets
If you're coming to a show in the QMU there's an accessible toilet inside the men's and women’s toilets on the ground floor, it’s accessed via a key which can be found at reception. Please speak to a steward or member of staff, who will be happy to access this key for your use.
Gender neutral toilets are also available on the 3rd floor the building, so just ask a member of our team to show you the way if you’re visiting us for the first time.
Cloakroom
Please let any staff members know if you need assistance when you arrive and they’ll be happy to help you; the facilities are on the right then left as you enter the building.
Medical room & Emergencies
We have a medics room near the venue toilets (ground level). If you require any assistance or a private area at any point, please just speak to a member of our staff. Any particular requirements can of course be asked in confidence and in advance. Just get in touch.
Merchandise
If there’s merchandise on sale for QMU shows, it will be found on the right as you exit the venue, so just let us know and we’ll show you the way.
Strobe lighting
Most shows and events now use strobe lighting and smoke effects, but we’ll make sure there are signs up to let you know and you can also ask when you arrive. If this is an issue, please let one of our team know, before or during an event.
