Union General Manager to leave QMU in September

QMU’s General Manager, Bill Blackstock, has announced his decision to leave his role in September this year. Bill has worked in the role for over 5-years and has played a crucial role in initiating a change process that will secure the future of QMU. As well as operational management of the Union, Bill has brought QMU to a position where it will have an exciting new strategy to help it enrich the lives of University of Glasgow students. Bill said:

“I’ve decided that the time is right for me to leave QMU. I’m grateful for having had the chance to work for the last 5-years as part of such an incredible Union and institution. By my leaving, it will provide a fantastic opportunity for a new Chief Executive to lead the delivery of a new strategy, a new governance structure and begin to establish a strong new culture within QMU. The Union is changing and this will mark a new chapter in the QMU story.”

Mata Durkin, President and Chair of the Board said:

“We are incredibly grateful to Bill for his hard work and commitment to QMU over the last 5-years.  Bill is a likeable, humble and incredibly dedicated senior manager and we wish him the best after QMU. Our next Chief Executive will have big shoes to fill and a great opportunity to lead our work in adding value to students’ lives and the University community.”

QMU will shortly be commencing the recruitment of a new Chief Executive, with the aim of having a new senior leadership team in place ready for the new academic year in September.
